Question: Can I password protect my websites for secure intranet or private use at my
school?
Yes you
can. By passwording your website you stop it being viewed on the public internet and only the people who know your
password can access your website. This is the best option for creating an instant school intranet site. You will
need to ask your webhost manager at your school to set up an ftp site for you and to place a password on your
site.
ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION: I manage my own hosting with www.hostmonster.com based in
Utah, USA. I find this the best way to manage my websites for school use as I have full control. It costs me
$10/month for hosting and I have full control over all my website ftp logins, passwords, etc. It is easy to manage
and setup yourself. The cost is also tax deductable for work use...or...just get your school to
cover this cost and every teacher at your school can use this host to upload their websites for intranet
use...space is unlimited...so you can upload as much or as little as you want, from one to hundreds of
websites. The only thing is, you need one person only to manage the hosting....I do this for my school. It's
easy and takes up no time at all. Each time a new teacher purchases Xsitepro, I just set up an
FTP folder for her/him on the host server and make up a password for them. It's that easy....I don't need
to do anything else.
