XSite Pro Tutorials:
Designing a Subject Website for use on your school's Intranet.

Adding downloadable content:

Firstly, you need to understand file types. The best file type to upload and download on/off the internet are what are called PDF files.

Any file can be converted to a pdf file.
If you are the proud owner of MS Office 2007, all you have to do is choose to save your file as a pdf. HOWEVER, you need to also save the file as a word, or powerpoint, or excel file first so that you can edit it later. PDF files cannot be edited once saved.
(Well, they can, but most of you don't have the software to do that!)

If you don't already have the PDF add-in in your MS Office 2007 program, then you can download it from the link below:

2007 Microsoft Office Add-in: Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS

This download allows you to export and save to the PDF and XPS formats in eight 2007 Microsoft Office programs. It also allows you to send as e-mail attachment in the PDF and XPS formats in a subset of these programs.

If you are still using MS Office 2003 , then you need to download a compatibility pack to open 2007 version of documents that come your way. You can do that here:

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats

Open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations in the file formats new to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007.

Also, if you are using MS Office 2003, then you will need to download a software package to create PDF files. You can download a free PDF creater here:
Download and install the free CutePDF download and converter, OR get the zipped setup which has both packs in it, then instal.

  (Ver. 2.7; 1.54 MB)

PLUS

  (GPLGS8.15; 5.01 MB)

OR

Once you have added CutePdf   to your list of software programs,
to save a file as a pdf you need to choose the PRINT option.
Funny, I know...but you aren't going to print it, it is just that
there is where it is installed...as a printer.  After you have chosen it,
then it  will give you an option of where to save your pdf
file on your computer.  A little bit of a hussle, but well worth it.
Otherwise I suggest you just upgrade your software to MS Office 2007.

Can't afford MS Office 2007? (100% tax deductable for teachers), then
download a better than MS Office 2003 software that is free and
almost as excellent as MS Office 2007 and does make easy PDF files.
Go to OpenOffice.org.
